Baloney. America has been a gun owning nation from day one. The decay of the country started with liberalism in the 1960s. The rot comes from liberalism, not from gun ownership.

I believe I have heard it said that there are 20,000 gun laws on the books between state and federal laws.

So instead of simply enforcing existing laws left-wing logic is to pass new laws that will also not be enforced but will only affect responsible gun owners

Oh, but I’m sure the next law will do the job.

We don’t have a gun epidemic. We have a crime problem. The kid could have used a stolen family car with the same success.

Yet they won't call for banning dangerous high capacity vehicles or suing the manufacturers.

They consider that an acceptable loss of life evidently

So let's compare INTENTIONAL murders by car with INTENTIONAL murders by guns.

Really? We've voted in how many politicians that have started or entered into wars/military actions that have caused how many deaths? Actions that we should have stayed out of. A lot more deaths are attributed to that than civilian caused deaths in the US.

Cars have an actual utility in getting ourselves and things we need moved from place to place Motion within our environment is one very necessary, and it may be argued even defining, characteristic of life itself.

Guns kill other people. How often is that an inherent necessity in our lives?

Were they all outside on a parking lot when this happened? Guns are a LOT easier to carry about than cars.

Cars often kill other people whether on purpose or accidentally.

Guns are used for many other purposes in fact I have never owned one that has killed anyone. Though I have killed a hog and many empty beer cans.

Why just the other day the missus and I went to a friend's house out in the boondocks on his private land and we shot my 44 revolver.

It was rather entertaining. Fun was had by all and no one was killed that day. Plus the fact that I know it's laying on the nightstand next to her as we speak brings me peace of mind as I am at work until 6:00 a.m.

Humanity existed the vast majority of its time without automobiles.

And yet we somehow managed to survive.

So this tells me that you anti-gun folks have simply decided that a certain degree of loss of life is acceptable for your convenience.

I rode a bicycle exclusively for over two decades of my life.

Though I drive now because I am getting older and also you may guess the next part.... Convenience.

Only if you're ok with the following:
To vote you must go through a background check (every time), show ID, and if it is a statewide or higher level election you must submit your vote a week in advance and go through a waiting period.

It would only put things on par with each other.

Your emotional response and flagrant exaggerations do not impress me. Many more people have been killed by popular governments than have ever been killed by individual gun ownership in the USA.

Every single day, multiple times a day, a gun is used to protect life. I'd say that is more important then items. And according to Obama's own CDC report, that happens between 250,000 times per year to 3 million times per year.

You always focus on the deaths due to people using guns in bad ways. You never once address the lives saved by them.

I suppose that's true. But only one side is trying to do something about it while the other side resists those efforts. For example, the gun lobby has fought against the kinds of common sense gun safety laws that would have required the MI shooter's parents to securely store their gun. The gun they bought for their apparently mentally ill son. Secure storage, trigger locks, holding gun owners responsible for the reckless use of their gun. All these proposals have been fought tooth and nail by the NRA. So when you say they don't want these murders to happen it doesn't really tell the whole story.

The culture of violence is essentially carried by Republicans in this country.

They're the ones who start wars and promote guns in the name of a false principle of freedom that is nothing more than NRA propaganda.

The last three wars in which the US has participated were started by Republican POTUS.

The same is true for the last three recessions.

American conservatism has become a calamity for this country.

    That's blatantly false.
    WWI: Woodrow Wilson (D)
    WWII: Franklin Delano Roosevelt (D)
    Korea: Harry Truman (D)
    Vietnam: Lyndon Johnson (D)
    Gulf: George Bush (R)
War on Terror: George W Bush (R)

And what part of "The right of the people" and "shall not be infringed" is NRA propaganda?

    Inb4 "muh militia".

Libs love to brag about defending civil rights. The right to own and bear arms is a civil right, why do they hate it?

You need to go back 56 years to make an argument...

Since 1991, the only three things the Republican POTUS has left as a legacy are economic crises, wars, and the murderous management of a pandemic.

No wonder voters have been voting overwhelmingly for a Democratic POTUS for the past 15 years.

Conservatism is a plague on this country, even more so since Trump, who has radicalized Republicans to the point where 35% are willing to use violence to advance their political agenda.

Other countries have the same kinds of issues with mental health that we do. What separates us from them is kids being slaughtered in schools because guns are readily available to the shooters here.

I agree, mental health issues are at the core of this issue. What do you propose we do about, ban guns or restricted the 2nd Amendment right to the point that it’s nullified? Because, that worked so well with banning drugs.

And the discussion has been derailed. I will take this as a surrender since you have completely gotten off topic.

Things to consider for next time:
    1. Don't move the goalposts. When you make a general statement, expect a general answer. If the answer is not in your favor, do not retroactively change the meaning of the question to something hyper-specific.

    2. Stay on topic. We went from a discussion about guns to your last post which did not mention them in any way shape or form.

    3. Lashing out is a sign of weakness. The quoted post is a wonderful example. You got backed into a corner and just had a wild rant against Republicans up your sleeve as a last resort. It unfortunately didn't work.

They want more restrictions put on gun ownership. Why is that so hard to grasp? How about we start with requiring that guns be stored safely.
