    Thanks for the reply.

You know that have that new...."Revolution"....software to run forums like this.

My computer guy....MOTHMAN....told me about it and just to let you know.....those who live in the world of Black Hats and Computer Action-ability whisper the name MOTHMAN like a Harry Potter fan whispers the name VOLDEMORT.

MOTHMAN.....is NOT the guy anyone would EVER want to mess with.

Even Langley is scared of my guy.

Anywho.....check it out...."Revolution".....supposedly it makes thing 1000 times easier and the site won't keep going down whether it does it by itself or you folks shut it down.

Any chance in getting that search engine to work yet?

Reputation points in some forums can be negative as well as positive. In other words if someone who had more points than you decided that they didn't like what they posted they could "negative rep" you and reduce your reputation total.

In another forum that resulted in "gangs" of posters who went around "negging" the "newbies" that were posting things they didn't like and thus driving them away from the forum. It didn't work in every instance but it did result in a great deal of animosity and flaming. What made it even worse was when the mods engaged in it themselves.

One of the reasons that I like this forum is that the negative rep feature is deactivated. It serves no purpose in any forum that wants to encourage civilized discourse IMO.

Yes, there are other forum software platforms that do have working search engines. ;-)

However it will be up to the owners of this forum to determine if they want to switch over to another platform.

My understanding is that vBulletin is the software for this forum and it is based upon a Microsoft server. Last time I checked MS servers were being phased out in favor of Linux servers so it is possible that the servers might be reaching their Best Before date and not being replaced.

The decision is not ours to make but if the forum service starts failing regularly then the members will start looking for more stable alternatives. That would be a pity because what we have here is really good.

The thing is -- at one time, the search engines in here *did* work. I noticed about a year ago -- it kerplunked.

Software does not last forever. Over time bugs accumulate and parts that did work stop working. Sometimes the bugs have nothing whatsoever to do with the original software.

When it comes to browser based applications they are susceptible to changes in security patches and malware detection. What was an acceptable SQL search call becomes compromised by a virus that can inject code into the SQL call. The security patch simply blocks those SQL statements entirely thereby deactivating the search engine.

If the application support team aren't aware of the security patch or they don't have it in their testing environment they can't replicate the problem and fix it.

Yes...it is good and easy to negotiate.

The only improvement I would make besides making sure the site didn't keep going down or have to be shut down for maintenance is for a member to EASILY....as this forum has this but you have to go to your homepage....easily see and be able to immediately click on where another member has quoted you and replied to your post.

We currently go to our Control Panel and we can see if a person has posted to our subscribed to Topics but what would be nice is if when another member has replied to one of our posts on that subscribed to topic that the page number of that topic where another member replied to our post was highlighted.

That way if a member has not been online for awhile and they go to a subscribed topic....and say my last post to that topic was on page 10....and I come back and it's been 4 days and I look at that topic and it is now all the way up to page 57.

But it would be nice if I looked and saw that page 26 has been highlighted red thus I can go to page 26 as I would know someone replied and quoted my post on page 10 on page 26 without having to go through pages 10 through 57 to find it.

    Just a suggestion.

Since there are a lot of threads started about events in other countries I would like you to reconsider the rule about posting links in other languages.
It is near impossible to find a good source in English for many non-English countries. Google translate works fine for most languages so people who can't read them should be able to get the gist by using auto-translation.

Question for the moderators: the forum takes about 12 seconds sometimes to upload a new thread. Trump is messing up about every 10 seconds and the forum can't keep up with it. Could things be speeded up a bit so we can have a hope of posting every Trump train wreck? He has fewer disasters overnight so it would be ok if things slowed down then.

    Thanks in advance.

I have had 6 interruptions with the server being busy. Whats going on? Always seem to pop up as I make a post too.

Under your "Support PF" tab there is
    8. If you have a business or organization, please contact the Admin about sponsorships and advertising opportunities.

How would I go about advertising our political condoms on your site? who do I contact?

I invite a staffer to explain how it makes sense to delete an entire thread on account of a bad OP when it could just as easily be locked.

Does it make a difference? I feel like if posters don't want their threads locked or deleted, they should ensure that the thread is in compliance with the rules,...then there's no issue. But in cases where there is an issue, the way I usually do it is that if a thread has graphic imagery, spam, or blatantly violates rule 2, 4, or 7-9, then I will delete it, (no point in leaving that sort of stuff up to offend someone who may be poking around in the closed thread) otherwise I may just lock it if say it only violates rule 1 or 11 (if members are poking around in closed threads, such in my mind gives them an idea of the kind of threads which aren't allowed), but even in those cases I don't take deleting off the table.

So I basically just handle it on a case by case basis, and I assume the other mods do too.
    Why do you ask?

So it has not entered your head that when threads get deleted, contributions from posters other than the OP get deleted as well, irrespective of their compliance with the rules.

    I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

So has it not entered yours, that we mods might not want folks responding to rule violations?
If someone posts a nude image, spam, or a blatant insult as an OP, for what reason do you suppose
we would want to leave up the responses to such a post??

Why is this board so laggy and slow? Maybe you need an upgrade? :) Sometimes it will tell me that the board is "too busy to respond" too. However, I find the slowness during navigation to be especially annoying.

On the contrary, far, far be it from the y-man to gainsay the determination of PF staff to engage in net-nannyism at every opportunity.

Because just as intelligent posts can draw idiotic responses, the reverse is true as well; and because respondents often put significant time and effort into the posts that are so casually deleted. You're welcome.

How about using a dead guys picture as an avatar ? one forum member has one and it is quite unseemly.

Armed with new evidence I'd like to revisit the need for staff to time out. We learned in the DCLeaks that the Democratic party actually does pay attention to political discussion boards and does attempt to control them, even with PF not specifically mentioned with our forum being the world's largest the probability that the parties have tried to get control of our forum through shills is 1 . As a PCF refugee I have long felt that many of the staff there were party shills and their actions ultimately lead to the destruction of that forum. It was nice to learn almost a decade latter that I'm at least not totally paranoid and that the Democratic party does pay shills.

With the knowledge that political parties will try to take over our forum is they can then a term limits would be a good idea to make any such capture at least very difficult.

Why was this thread retitled, and why am I having to ask who did it?

Maybe it was changed to match the title of the video you posted. Just sayin..

As activity increases the server(s) often respond by reallocating resources as defined by preprogrammed priority. Unless this forum is at the top of this list it loses ability and function as this happens. Often there are many such active entities running an a particular server and the more you pay the higher you are on the list.

Yes I agree , more transparency would be nice. When you collect donations from people , the standards in transperancy should be much greater. I see many threads get closed down with some vague rule, I feel we should be provided with more information. Mods can we make this happen?

Obviously not, but why would the title of the thread need to match that of the video?
