See.. you are confirming the very point I made: ie, after establishing the military force required to defend the nation, you are now claiming you must also ensure the defense of your own ideology against your own elected
    government
    .

My "animus"? Hint: Conservatives refuse to see the relationship of unemployment, poverty and violent crime.
Certainly the Left would prefer a functional economy:

" According to Pressley (D) and some prominent economists, a federal jobs guarantee would go lengths to reduce poverty and close longstanding racial wealth disparities resulting from years of institutional discrimination. It could also support efforts to upgrade the country’s infrastructure or address the shortage of childcare workers".

But Conservatives want to enforce their own view of "freedom" on society, via the anachronistic 2nd amendment (as addressed previously).....claiming individual self-defense as the purpose of the 2nd.

"as it was intended to do" ...in Conservative ideology that is.

I suppose common sense is not all that common after all. ....How much firepower do you need, to defend yourself from an unarmed intruder* into your own home?

(**Common sense gun laws would ensure likely home-invader criminals would not have access to guns)

That's NOT the reason for the 2nd amendment... but you confirm my point: Conservatives don't believe in rule of law by an elected government.

You STILL have not answered the question:
These are military grade weapons Why aren't they suitable for home defense?
You say this, not understanding it in no way negate the usefulness of a firearm for home defense.

On the issue of gun control at least, I think it'd be more demonstrably accurate to say conservatives believe the rule of law limits what we can elect our govt to do...

you need to work on understanding what I wrote . I never mentioned defense against the government did I? the natural right of self defense is against anything and everything that seeks to harm you. You seem to read into that the government

how can you guarantee that the NEXT intruder to enter your home illegally is UNARMED. it is like saying you only need a bandaid for any and all medical emergencies or one bucket of water for any type of fire your home might be threatened by

if a civilian police department has access to a TYPE OF FIREARM, that governmental unit has STATED beyond any dispute, that such a weapon is SUITABLE for self defense by CIVILIANS in a CIVILIAN environment

    1. By eliminating systemic poverty.
    2. By requiring comprehensive background checks on all individuals.

You said: "provide for the means of that right to be enabled by imposition upon the federal government a negative restriction on its power to act."

    Note my underlined.

Government** is of the people, by the elected representatives, for the people. **Including the Federal government. duh.

Hey Big Richard, you are in need of "re-education" as much as the fundamentalist Islamist terrorists in Xinjiang, who are similar to the Taliban who have cost the US so dearly in the last 20 years.

Here is your first lesson, (from another thread):

The concept of "individual rights" vis a vis government, needs to be fully understood.

Firstly, the concept of "sovereignty of the individual" is delusional, in a world with more than one individual, IF anarchy is to be avoided.

Note: the predatory system of nature has endowed individuals with competitive, blind, (irrational**) SURVIVAL instincts, **irrational in the sense that instincts are not derived from conscious, rational, thinking processes. It is these instincts which have to be managed by government, to achieve community well-being.

[Identification of the "commie Left" with "stinking pedo grubs" is right up there with Talibans-style thinking, I'd say...re-education is certainly in order...]

Now admittedly - despite your 'pro-life' stance' (I'm guessing) - you are quite content to tolerate the high death toll from gun violence in the US (resulting from 2nd amendment "rights")....so I don't expect you to be interested in "avoiding anarchy"..

2 is stupid for the following reasons

    a) criminals won't bother
    b) the only way to enforce it is complete registration

educate me on what is a military grade weapon, what makes them different (is the Beretta 92 a military grade weapon?) and what is required for self defense. I was the firearms training officer for my component of the DOJ. Can you tell me what credentials you have that would suggest you are in any position to tell me what a civilian NEEDS or REQUIRES for self defense in light of the fact this is an area where I was recognized as an expert and in light of the fact that every time a civilian government issues a weapon to a civilian employee, that government is saying that weapon is required for civilian self defense?

You mean a "liberal" government that might follow.......

Note: the Founders lacked access to modern understanding of human motivation; here is post #90 again (abridged):

The concept of "individual rights" vis a vis government, needs to be fully understood.

Firstly, the concept of "sovereignty of the individual" is delusional, in a world with more than one individual, IF anarchy is to be avoided.

this is evasive nonsense. And you guessed wrong. I was once a volunteer security guard for Planned Parenthood. Though I oppose the politicians they support, I see no value in banning most abortions. SO you completely missed here. You also are not accurately reflecting what I believe in. I don't believe in giving up my rights to placate people who only pretend to care about "the high death toll" and that claim is dishonest anyway. The vast majority of violent gun deaths are perpetrated by those already banned from owning guns. Lawfully obtained firearms are rarely involved in crime. and no, I don't believe suicide is "gun violence". I believe in bodily autonomy -you know, the basis supporting abortion OR suicide rights.

Care to critique the "evasive nonsense"? Here it is again, with an abridged final sentence (since you claim not to be a 'pro-life' hypocrite, which I will accept) :

The concept of "individual rights" vis a vis government, needs to be fully understood.

Firstly, the concept of "sovereignty of the individual" is delusional, in a world with more than one individual, IF anarchy is to be avoided.

Note: the predatory system of nature has endowed individuals with competitive, blind, (irrational**) SURVIVAL instincts, **irrational in the sense that instincts are not derived from conscious, rational, thinking processes. It is these instincts which have to be managed by government, to achieve community well-being.

But since you are quite content to tolerate the high death toll from gun violence in the US (resulting from 2nd amendment "rights").... I don't expect you to be interested in "avoiding the anarchy" manifested in that high gun death toll.

    [link]
Gun violence in the United States - Wikipedia

About 1.4 million people have died from firearms in the U.S. between 1968 and 2011. This number includes all deaths resulting from a firearm, including suicides, homicides, and accidents.[11]

Compared to 22 other high-income nations, the U.S. gun-related homicide rate is 25 times higher.

Given the above statistics relating to 2nd amendment gun violence in the US, it's hard to say what gun you need for self-defense.....given virtually unrestricted access to any type of gun in the US.

So we’re all now at the mercy of those who can’t help themselves? No thanks, socialism. We already know how that works out.
