Maybe if America could rely on the rest of NATO, they'd feel safer and spend less on defense because they'd have allies at their back who 'get America'?

    Crazy idea.

*******n it ... slowly your stubbornness, your lack of knowledge and your ignorance is not funny anymore!

Say and show with the articles of the NATO Treaty, which states that each member must put 2% of the GDP in the defense!

Search and show it to me or keep silent!

A hint: You will not find anything ... because this is nowhere in the contract as a binding duty / obligation in it ... and it is not even mentioned!

    Fact:

At the 2002 NATO Summit in Prague ... the Baltic States, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia were invited to become members of the Alliance. One condition was to invest "sufficient resources" in the defense, as the armed forces of these countries were in poor condition. The benchmark for each of these aspirants on NATO membership was two percent of their GDP. But for the sake of equity, those states that already belonged to NATO should also aim for this goal.

Note: They should, but not must !!!

At the NATO summit in Wales from 4 to 5 September 2014
    (A) those Member States of the Alliance which reach the 2002 NATO benchmark of expenditure of at least two per cent of their gross domestic product (GDP) on defense, aim to continue doing so;
    B) as well as those Allies whose defense spending share of GNP is currently below this benchmark, do not continue to cut defense spending but increase real-world spending on defense as part of GDP growth and reach the benchmark of two percent within ten years to their NATO capability goals
to reach and fill NATO capability gaps.

Point A) we meet ... we had 2014 = Treaty of Wales, a total military budget of 32.4 billion euros. Now, in 2019, it has grown to 43.2 billion euros
Point B) so far we have met ... and the deadline is 2024, not 2019.

But again ... it is still NO OBLIGATION!

In western culture, it is the act of a weasel or leech to do what Germany's doing, Germany it seems, doesn't want to be Occident, and would rather be in a bloc. If not the USSR, then it's the EU.

It's high time the UK got out of the EU without a deal, what kind of divorce ties one to the other?

I do not mind and reject ... EU chief complainers showing in their hate against the EU that they have no idea about the EU are finally gone and the rest of the EU is at peace ... unlike some trolls like Orban, but this will be the next issue to kick them out by the EU!

If you feel better after that, good for you and good luck!
But if your economy is experiencing a crash, the unemployment rate is rising, the cost of living is rising, many drugs are no longer sufficient and in Northern Ireland riots break out as before ... then I hope you know, whom you have to blame for that: Yourself and nobody else ... and certainly not the EU for your own failure! You wanted the No Deal, not the EU, so live with the consequences of what you want!

Well look at the bright side. They crash out of the EU, their GDP crashes, too.
It will be so much easier to make the 2%, they even can boast, same budget, that they make 10%.

And the US would loose all those nice bases in Germany, from which it wages war in Africa and the Middle East and Arabia.

That would be wonderful. Bring all the troops home and everything that ain't bolted down. To hell with waging war in Africa and the Middle east and Arabia.

... and do not forget Asia, there are also many of your guys!
And then you lose all influence in the world and can see how you can enforce your interests.

The USA should take a long hard look at the EU27 is a bloc and decide how it wants to proceed with them - Germany cannot be dealt with separately as it is basically the EU; without Germany the EU27 just sputters to a rather ignoble standstill.

But it's not, the EU isn't a United States of Europe.
Each country pays for its own defense.

It's besides the point, they decide how much they pay, and the EU isn't a country.

For the EU27 to be a country, you'd have to tell 27 heads of state to step down for starters.

The issue isn't about money. It's about distrust. Germany seem to be hostile towards America, and EU customs isn't helping matters.

There ain't anything anybody can do to stop China from ruling Europe in ten years -- other than nuclear, over and out.

Which is why the UK meets its NATO commitments, :), I mean this with love but, we don't want to speak German!
I like how it's funny to you I'm not speaking German, it's actually funny to me because you're telling me this in English.
    :)

The irony, the fact, love it.

Because we smartened up, we just buy you, your industries, we manage your railroad system.
Either we buy it, or we manage it for you, because you are not capable to do it yourself.
Look what happened today, what you call your governing body. A disgrace, a show of what the UK is, a joke, broken down system, which makes Greece and Italy look great, havens of stability.

That UK wants to deal with the rest of the world on its own?
    With that ?
