The video above doesn't show much to me and (if this is the video by the NYT) I had already seen the 2nd part before. To me, at least, the NYT article headline oversells their video.

In any case, if it emerges that the plane was struck by an anti-aircraft missile, then the real question is not why Iran's air defenses weren't shut down! That would be a dereliction of duty on the part of the revolutionary guards who were doing their job. The real question is why the government of useless Rouhani and company, instead of worrying about warning everyone the minute they are told that the attack will take place, wasn't focused on preparing the agencies under its mandate (including the airport authorities) to take proper precautionary measures. I am already upset at the Rouhani administration, but this would be the tipping point for me to say: they need to go even before their term is up.

It was such a "Sissy slap" that to this day, you guys haven't been shown the real videos of the strikes. I have. If they could, they would probably even censor the before and after images obtained by satellite imagery. Freedom of press? The whole thing with Iran, not just now but over the years, has managed to put all of America's claims and slogans look hollow.

I don't know how the person with the phone new to be there filming it, but it's a clear missile launch and detonation, and you see the target then with flames from the hit for a bit, before it gets too dim to see.

Well the Soviet pilot who actually shot down KAL 007 made several reports to his superiors before firing that the airliner was lit up with all its lights and beacons flashing. He believed it to be a civilian airliner but when ordered to do so he obeyed his orders.

Also aboard was a U.S. congressman from Georgia.

errmmmm....probably because it was a salvo of missiles the tossers fired at the plane....it probably gave the soldier a pretty big clue that something was happening...

 

it wasn't an escalation..... it was probably a very badly trained crew in a very badly organised unit with a really badly organised command and control that got the major jitters because they were told that a bunch of F-35s might be on there way....so they were all hyped up on their alli akbars and shiiit like that.....it was a monumental fcuk up...

 

This is simple as simple gets, turn the black box over if you didn't shoot it down, it'll prove they didn't shoot it down. It obviously was an accident and one I doubt the regime will fess up too because it's literally the dumbest possible mistake they could make at that moment.

The deal was giving them a nuke. It only made them develop it slower, but it didn't stop them from getting one.

 

If the Iranians have nothing to hide, just turn the black boxes over to a relatively neutral nation. Switzerland, Sweden, or if they don't want a western nation, India.
