There is enough warmth for all homeless at the shelters. They do not allow drugs or alcohol, so the homeless prefer the street. Sorry that warmth did not turn out to be the factor you hoped it would be.

This would be a good start:

    1. Eliminate the minimum wage for unskilled jobs.
    2. Subsidize the wages of unskilled labor.

Encourage and provide incentives for local businesses and individuals to hire hire unskilled idled workers to clean up the urban wastelands.

I am reading Johan Hari's "Chasing the Scream", The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs" Bloomsbury 2015. Hari provides evidence that drug addiction is misunderstood based on early flawed rat studies. Have not finished reading - he may be onto something.

The homeless can survive on the streets so long as there are newspapers and cardboard boxes.

Would be better to just bring back the vagrancy statutes and arrest the vagrants for detox, rehab and work.

And people use drugs because they want to drop out of our carefully crafted "progressive" paradise.

It is indeed. I work frequently in both Seattle and Everett which is just about 30 mins north of Seattle. Seattle rarely freezes, and Everett frequently freezes. In 10 years of working all up and down the WA coastline, I've only seen snow on the ground once. Areas around Olympia (60 mins south) are technically classified as rainforest.

East of the Cascades is an entirely different story.

I was walking my dog at the Sepulveda basin and walked through a homeless encampment. They had tents, camping gear, BBQs, and music playing.

Seattle and SF are both enduring a trend where people work full time while living in their car due to the cost of housing. Its actually a great way to save a big chunk of cash if you can tolerate it for a while.

The homeless problem in California including the lack of affordable housing is the direct result of liberal policies and California's democrat legislators who have had the welcome mat out at it's borders especially at the Mexican border for thirty years.

    Overpopulation !

    Typhus?

    A notifiable communicable disease?

    IN America?

Where the HELL is your federal government? Communicable diseases demand a national not a local approach

California is in a state of revolt against the current executive branch of the federal government.
California has gone beyond obstructionism to sedition.
Now California is on it's own and has to deal with germ warfare...the freaking flea and rats.

One thing is quite apparent when Republicans respond to the needy; they disclose they are neither patriots nor Christians [both of which these imposters claim]. Fake Christians who unwittingly cannot conceal their anti-social impulses and betrayal of the Gospel. Angry people who are bewildered by the world, willing to obscure the truth in order to cover selfishness. Republican fake science denies the problem in order to exploit resources. Wow, scary and why I am so glad to live in a state trying to help people and secure environmental protections [ie. banning plastic straws] that misanthropic Republicans mock. Mini-Trumps bordering on traitors.

Seriously, it can not get much worse than being a Republican so don't expect respect/ recognition other than contempt. Sit back and cry discrimination when Americans grab your little MAGA cap and throw it in the toilet.

Banning plastic straws is a slippery slope.

It's like you can never rely on Republicans in a fox hole during battle. Who needs enemies when Republicans are near?

    When you cough...cover your mouth.

Wash your hands when you shake hands with a Democrat or after reading the WaPo or the New York Times.

If you are sick...stay home and use a ballot harvester when you vote.

So...how do Democrats respond to the needy in their midst? By banning plastic straws? Somehow that doesn't seem helpful.

What is the non-Republican state you're so glad to live in doing for the homeless? Would you be glad to live in said state if you were homeless?

I'm not American. There are some Republicans I like, there are some Democrats I like, there are some Republicans I don't like, there are some Democrats I don't like. I don't see one side as good and the other as bad. I see people, not labels.
