Here's some common sense for you: cops carry guns because they might have to deal with a violent criminal. Violent criminals don't target cops purposefully for the most part; they target innocent people... and innocent people have the right to defend themselves and their lives.

This country is one based on personal freedom and political liberty. Part of that is SELF-OWNERSHIP. We have a right to life, which means we have a right to DEFEND our life. I've seen what happens when some moron tries to "use the Force" or whatever invisible force you advocate for. I will put myself on the other side of that equation, and possess the means to defend myself effectively.

    He's yanking your chain.

He knows full well that if he is in a situation where deadly force is necessary to save his life, he's screwed.
He also knows no matter how smart he thinks he is, he cannot possibly plan to avoid every reasobale possibility of needing deadly force to save his life, just as cannot plan to avoid every real possibility of getting into an accident while driving.

    Just another troll, boys.

Rights are rights, no matter where you live in the country. But like in Orwell's Animal Farm, those who live in the big cities on the east subscribe to the "some are more equal than others" school of thought.

Attacking the lack of meaningful content in your posts is not an attack on you, no matter how much you may think so.

And threats, like politics, are local.

Do you live in brown bear, or cougar, country?

And people will continue to die or be injured.

So, let me in on your secret. 2 gentlemen with baseball bats are approaching you, cussing you and want what you have. All have stated they are going to **** you up. Only a couple of seconds to come up with a plan.

Now share with me your magic strategy of using your brain/mouth as a defense.

I do get the felling I am wasting me time with you but will give it a shot anyway.

Personally, I do live in bear country, where violent crime rates are low. I've also lived where the threats were more of the two-legged variety. I carried in both places; I just carried different armament depending upon the most pressing threat.

How long will it take for that hypothetical assistance to reach your position at any given moment?

It is very foolish to travel unarmed through a savage, violent, and often lawless land.

And I do. But the point you miss is that while I do carry in the event I might run into a dangerous animal, I also carry in urban environments where the predators walk on two legs instead of four.... and the chances of needing a gun to defend yourself against them is far more pressing, statistically, than the need to defend yourself against a bear.

What do you carry if you're hiking, not hunting, in bear country?

Maybe we should make it illegal to steal guns from people.

My usual backwoods gun, for years, was a .44 Magnum; usually a 4-inch model 29 S&W. Now my outdoor backup gun is a 10mm loaded with Buffalo Bore hard cast solids.

Yeah, I carried a Blackhawk .41 Mag in the woods in Maine, but that's for black bear not brown, big difference.
