Did they fight for the Union? If so, they would not likely take it too well that you are defending the flag of treason.

You've already proven your hypocrisy in your own argument. You're done :)

Context matters. People do simply see the flag as a symbol of southern pride and independence.

The people of the confederacy were manipulated into supporting the interests of the landed aristocracy. In many cases they were fighting for suppressed wages for themselves and their children. The confederacy was in many ways more centralized than the union it split off from.

Slavery was undeniably a big factor, but to propose it as the only one forgets the 80 year history that led to the conflict. The ratification of the constitution, the Whiskey Rebellion, the nullification crisis, protectionist trade war between north and south, etc.

People definitely fought for independence. And its wrong to slander the descendants of these people as racist.

    Context matters.

After all, my ancestors fought under the bloody Union Jack, and it remains on the Australian flag to this day. Who are we to judge?

Lol crappy attempt at a diversion tactic, heres a good quote from your own article:

This picture gets ‘attention on social media’ frequently,” McConnell spokesman David Popp said in a statement to TIME. “The left trots it out every time Sen. McConnell speaks out on race or the Confederate flag–as he did on Charlottesville, the Confederate flag over SC’s capitol, removing Jefferson Davis from the Kentucky capitol, his comments on Steve King and so on. They’ve been doing this for many, many years.

forum right wingers are defending the pro slavery traitors of the south:

Defenders of slavery argued that the institution was divine, and that it brought Christianity to the heathen from across the ocean. Slavery was, according to this argument, a good thing for the enslaved. John C. Calhoun said, "Never before has the black race of Central Africa, from the dawn of history to the present day, attained a condition so civilized and so improved, not only physically, but morally and intellectually."

Defenders of slavery argued that by comparison with the poor of Europe and the workers in the Northern states, that slaves were better cared for. They said that their owners would protect and assist them when they were sick and aged, unlike those who, once fired from their work, were left to fend helplessly for themselves.

That's one reason why they committed treason and fought for the south.

Sons of Confederate vets event vs blackface and a Klan hood at a frat party.
    Sort of some nuance there.

But cocaine mitch needs to go for other reasons.

a good time to leak it with the Northam stuff out there, both happened about 30+ years ago, have either supported racism recently?

"A spokesman suggested Leader McConnell wouldn’t pose for such a photo today as he did “30 years or so ago”... 1/4"

In 1985 wearing blackface beside a guy dressed like a kkk member was racist in 1990 people in mainstream were still ok with that flag.

    maybe in the south.....

the internet was not really big at the time, so i think people got away with more... but neither were "ok" things except maybe in those states - we also did not have 24 hour news

if one did any of that stuff today, kiss a political career goodbye

yep, same opinion I have of Mitch and his running in the south during that time frame... as I said, those were different times, could people get away with those things today, I do not think so

as far as the dukes of hazards actors or the Soul Man actors of those times, they should probably stay out of politics

do you think Mitch is toast, or do you agree with me?
