Generally federal wage hikes not double the federal minimum wage.

Minimum wage is always the same zero, the bottom, its trickle up misery trickle up poor

All they did was raise taxes on everyone else.

I have a better idea how about people quit exploiting Asian sweat shop labor for cheap products and buy American?

Ok.... meanwhile I am looking at the restaurant closure bloodbath in San Francisco..... a whole lotta diversity being annihilated I guess.

Their only Senagalese restaurant closed this year.
Their oldest African American owned bar closed this year.
Their NaPo Green Chile Kitchen closed this year.
Their Tosca Cafe closed after 100 years of operation this year.
Their only transgender bar closed this year.

    https://sf.eater.com/closings

Skyrocketing population and declining restaurant seats. What could be the cause?

Nah lets not believe the people who run restaurants, lets believe the politicians.... they are never wrong.

Do you seriously believe that starvation is an issue in America? Seriously?

In America, where the poorest are the fattest, starvation resulting from poverty is actually a thing. Really?

I am always amazed at how stupid politicians are just to buy votes, didn't they ever go to college and take a course in economics 101? Or run a lemonade stand at least as a kid?

Profit margins are small, In the fast food and restaurant industry

What percentage of ANY American is starving in the street?

Anybody who looks at America and thinks "starvation" must be living in some sort of delusional parallel dimension.

CORPORATE restaurants will stay open. Independants are less able to absorb high labor costs and stay profitable.

High minimum wages are a great way to drive mom and pop restaurants out of business, and ensure your local restaurant market is dominated by McCorporations.

Please explain to us how that's a good thing.

If the government was running the soup kitchen that chicken would cost $25.99.

Look at what you just said.
If a business closes it puts people put of work, and those people will be unable to find another job because employers are cutting their workforce because they can't pay the minimum wage. Those unable to find another job will then go onto welfare to survive which will result in another round of tax increases to fund the extra demand on welfare. Some will be unable to pay their mortgage which will result in more repossessions much to the delight of real estate investors who will buy the property cheap and sell it to foreign buyers who will then let it sit empty. Those who rent will no longer be able to afford to live in a house/apartment but will have enough money to buy a tent which they will erect on the sidewalk.
Any time a government entity interferes in a free market economy, such as dictating how much an employer should pay his employees, you have a recipe for disaster.

If you want restaurants, come to Dallas. We have the most per capita.

Steak, barbecue, Tex-Mex, Mexican ... all fantastic. Our seafood and Italian is ok, but doesn't compare to the East Coast.

    Tex-Mex is better than Cal-Mex!

Whaaaa??? Dude, I've admired your posts for some time and never DREAMED that you were living in Seattle. Why don't you move to Dallas or Houston? I'm serious. We have our share of leftist nuts, but they aren't in a position to make job-killing policy like Seattle. Houston has got to be the most business friendly city in America.

Is it the duty of the local government to weed out those businesses which aren't "thriving" by increasing their cost?

When our form of capitalism cannot pay people enough to live on and many new jobs are part time taxpayers make up the difference.

But the problem is seen in great growth in income disparity. What happens when you see disparity greater than the gilded age? Those numbers have consequences.

Neoliberal capitalism is stupidity. Off shoring our consumption to enrich our elites have dire consrquences.

When clinton moved the dems to the right and the gop moved more to the right. ..well it was inevitable what the consrquences would be. A service sector economy that does not pay enough. And a business model that depends upon taxpayers to subsidize wages so walmart can max out profits.

Both parties sold out America so the elites get most of the pie and all of the gains. .And working people on the left and the right are brainwashed

The gop has never been the party that looks out for anyone but elites and the dems joined the gop in the 90s.

    So keep voting for them!
Without another fdr your kids are ****ed. FFor most Americans

Ahhh suggest you read the OP then come back and revise your statement. And why should government be deciding what makes a "good" restaraunt?

They don't. And I did read your one story of a guy who claimed the restaurant closed just because of a wage increase ... but businesses survive wage increases every day - it's called giving your employees raises. If you can't figure out how to price your product, then you were going under anyway (80% of restaurants do in the first 5 years).

And I find it laughable that people who supported Trump's trade war, which increased the prices of many food items to restaurants, are freaked out about this.

Good restaurants with smart managers and good food will be in demand in urban areas like Seattle. Anyone who shuts their doors because of the equivalent of an added 75 cents per meal was looking for an excuse to shut their doors anyway.

Same.. I know I'd never pay $20 for a burger, fries and drink when I can put the whole meal together for $5 and have enough meat left over for two more burgers 1/3 pounders..

And my grilling is far better then I have ever had from a eatery..
