Exactly! Modernization of these weapons for tactical purposes means they are far more likely to be used. I think our fear of using these weapons is diminishing and the unthinkable all of a sudden is becoming conceivable. Which is why I think it is far more dangerous than the MAD era.
Nuclear war: real threat, not fear mongering. Trump: real threat, not fear mongering. Border wall Fear Mongering, not real. I think I see the problem....
To be fair, there is probably non-compliance on both sides which I alluded to in the link for the op. The Russians feel that the US missile defense in Eastern Europe can be used to launch cruise missiles offensively for intermediate range weapons in violation of INF. There is also a concern about drones that can be used to fire cruise missiles. The Russians appeared to be ready to negotiate a new treaty that was shot down out of hand by Bolton et al.
I'm not so much friendly with Russia as concerned with NATO aggressiveness and expansion of military capacity on Russia's borders. It is more nuanced than this. Russia has concerns about Anti-missile systems on it's border that can be used to launch intermediate range weapons in violation of the treaty. Putin also appeared to be ready to renegotiate which the Americans have shot down. My position is that this is insanity and we should be working to get rid of these weapons altogether. Instead we are modernizing and preparing them for tactical use in the field. Does that seem rational to you?
If the russians want a new treaty that bans missle defense they will have to wait till trump is out of office and a democrat takes his place
You might be right that he is a traitor, and if he is, inside the Beltway is infested with traitors. They wear business suits with American flag lapel pins.
I think the process began, the world being a deadly place from nuclear threats, before AI came on the scene.
Breaking the law? Who gives a damn about the law? Certainly nobody in the federal government. It seems Putin is about the only guy on the stage that is obeying the law. Both the Syrian and the Venezuelan governments are legitimate and lawful, and as Russia offers support to those legal governments, the US threatens military aggression, its stock-in-trade.
One is a dictatorship and the other a dictatorship in the making Russia just wants to create trouble anywhere it can
I think the West is getting read for war. Even the reality that the US along with Canada, the UK. much of Europe, not sure of Australia have agreed to go completely against International law with regime change in Venezuela, lets us know they are no longer binding themselves to any form of International Law. It's basically the end of the UN and the beginning of the last war. That we are acting in this way when we have only a couple of decades to save ourselves from extinction is beyond belief and tells the lie that humans ever had intelligence. Regardless of whether the US or anyone else uses tactical or any other kind of nuclear bomb, the next war is our extinction. and yes, I think we are gearing yp for war with Russia. The UK certainly is.
Then why not use diplomacy and unite with European allies to pressure Russia with sanctions? Trump let Russia off the hook by withdrawing from the treaty first. Buddy, and I mean this in the nicest possible way: If you can't understand the cause and effect of the U.S. withdrawing from the treaty maybe you should lay off thinking about foreign policy because you clearly don't get it.
Aaaa, but doesn't Russia already have it? Actually, Russia is not worried about Poland, more about China. Since we are getting out of NATO why would we care?
it's a game of chess, as it's always been... now there's pause for them to think, know, we're free to back up sanctions to the max... oh, and that lil skirmish down south...
Putin's word carries no weight. Everyone who is not blind will agree. Whats the point of having a treaty with such leader?
Got to shed a lot of blood if you want them to stop, even for just trying to throw boogers into US elections.
