No, but what Trump is asking for won't solve the problem. Correctly identifying what steps will mitigate the problem and voting for a solution is what is important.
What is the problem(s) and why won't a wall help? I agree, as does most everyone. What have the Democrats decided is the best way stop illegal border crossings, the drugs being shipped, the human trafficking, and to stop the caravans from taking off? I really haven't heard any specific solutions for these problems yet the country certainly needs them.
Read again, your numbers have Pelosi at 36.% Trump at 40.%. But thanks for showing that Trump has surged in 1/23 polling to 45% Harvard Harris 44% Rasmussen. I note that you ignored the 1/23 numbers for Congress. 13% or 18%?
Trump will be playing the long game. Let's see what happens over the next few weeks. Nancy may have opened a door for him to declare a National Emergency once the next caravans begin arriving.
And the dismal 13% approval Harvard Harris records for Congress is the real tell. Congress is repulsive to almost all Americans. Trump could not choose a better enemy to fight.
That's one of the worst talking points the Republicans have come up with because everyone knows it isn't true. The persistence in using it is only making it worse for you guys. Give it up.
The problem is illegal immigration and a wall won't help because it's putting enormous effort into the area with the fewest entries. Most illegal immigrants come into the US through controlled entry points (airports and legal border crossings) and then overstay visas. The solutions Democrats have proposed are additional border agents and immigration judges and technology to protect both entry points and unguarded sections of the border.
Exactly. He'll win there just as he did against the MSM during the campaign. If he declares a National Emergency, or something similar to take charge during the next month, the MSM and its leftist followers will declare a "Constitutional Crisis" for sure. But in two years and during the next election campaign much of the border will be secure, illegal entry will be slowed, as will the smuggling of drugs and human trafficking. As well, he did all this over the protests of the Democrats and their media. He'll be a folk hero.
Then what specifically, do the Democrats want? Despite their concerns in the past, and their support of a border barrier of some sort, they seem to prefer the dismal status quo. Apart from robot dogs, what is their specific plan?
And more Democrats are rejecting their leadership everyday. "Mr. Trump’s offer should be welcomed but not accepted as the final word. There should be room to talk about the amount of money; how border security will be defined and enhanced; which categories of dreamers and TPS beneficiaries are covered; what their legal status will be, and for how long. But to refuse even to talk until the government reopens does no favors to sidelined federal workers and contractors. Unquestionably a deal would contain galling elements for both sides; that’s the nature of compromise. But a measure of statesmanship for a member of Congress now is the ability to accept some disappointments, and shrug off the inevitable attacks from purists, if it means rescuing the lives of thousands of deserving people living among us." ] Is there no way the Democrats can figure out a way to secure the southern border and to search out those overstaying their visas as well. It shouldn't be all that difficult. No specifics here but do you feel this will secure the southern border? The border agents on the jobs say they need walls. Do you feel they're wrong?
Another winner. Only 36 percent of voters say they support Trump’s re-allocating money to pay for the border wall through a national emergency, while 51 percent oppose such a declaration. Twice as many voters strongly oppose a national emergency, 41 percent, as strongly support it, 20 percent. And, as with much of the fight that has resulted in a government shutdown lasting more than three weeks, Trump has the support of the vast majority of Republican voters, 72 percent, but very few voters outside his political base. https://www.politico.com/story/2019...n-border-wall-national-emergency-poll-1102366 If Trump was smart and willing to work he would start it back up and work on a package. You know. A win, win, not an I win or else.
And everyone knows that it's all about Trump not realizing his main campaign promise which, along with his other wins, would make him a shoo-in in 2020. But even the goofiest leftists, and the most political of politicians, can also be patriots and put the safety and security of their country first.
Trump doesn't govern by polls. That should be evident by now. He deals with issues which he feels are important to the country and, eventually, people will agree with him. Have you really blocked the last Presidential out of your memory?
It's a process. I think Obama stepped up deportations and between that and declining entries the issue is sorting itself out to some degree - unauthorized persons in the US has declined 13% since 2007. That is primarily due to improving Mexican economy. I've seen interviews with border agents who feel a wall is important. I think their opinions should be considered. Trump doesn't know what he's talking about, but they do.
They want comprehensive immigration reform. You could start with the gang of 8 proposal and modify it. But of course you won't because it offers a solution for those already here. You still think you can put 11 million people on trains and deport them.
Hmm. Is that why he said we are getting crushed? Those little pops you hear are Republican Senate seats blowing up.
But the US cannot depend on Latin American economies as a way to defend their borders and the integrity of the country.. They need to be 'pro active'. In fact Trump communicates with them regularly though your media of choice may not report them. And Google tries to hide them also.
Dirty Donald not paying workers on time has always been his modus operandi, throughout his real estate carreer.Declaring bankruptcy making contractors settle for pennies on the dollar has been his lifetime practice. Why would the orangutan change his stripes now that he's in the White House.
Good point. He didn't care about stiffing contractors and suppliers so why would he care that 800,000+ people don't get paid for a month.
