Canucks have to pay a big Canadian import duty on shoes bought in the USA. That's why Canucks scuff up brand new shoes bought in America so they don't look new so they can get them across the Canadian border and not having to pay Canadian taxes and import duties on the shoes.

When Americans travel to Tia Juana to catch a donkey show they can bring back over the border one liter of alcohol bought in Mexico duty free. Anything over one liter you have to pay an import duty and the duty is so high it's cheaper to buy that rum at a liquor store in the USA.

Do you travel much around the world ?
Ever noticed the duty free stores inside international terminals ?

Another person who failed to grasp what Trump said. He was giving evidence of Canada's tarriffs he was not saying they were good or bad for Canada

Canada hits it's citizens just not with a import duty but also a tax.
When Americans return to America they are only hit with an import duty.
Have no idea what this Canadian tax thing is, it must be a liberal thing since liberals want to tax everything.

You failed to read the links embedded in the article. Another case of illiberalism.

That is their version of our sales tax.
I'm pretty sure Americans don't pay sales tax when they walk back in with imported Canadian shoes either.
Sorry, It's just another Trump stupid thing. :(

I've heard of walking a mile for a Camel, but never driving a hundred miles to save a few bucks on a pair of shoes.
    Is there a long line?

But we now depending if you live in a blue state or a red state have to pay state sales taxes when purchasing something in an other state when using the internet and that sucks.

Don't worry, I fully understand that Trump is losing it. He complained that the US is being treated horribly because Canadians are spending money in the US! Give me a laugh - please explain how the US is being treated horribly by Canadians spending money in the US

Californians drive 300 miles or more to buy an AR-15 in Arizona and then smuggles the AR-15 back into California.

Millions of American smokers will travel miles and hours to purchase cigarettes on the "rez" (Indian reservation) to avoid paying state sales and tobacco taxes.

Travel to Needles California or Blythe California on the Colorado River and you'll notice how many cars have Arizona plates on their vehicles to avoid the California Democrats really high car registration fees. (tax)

I travel all the time. Canadians can do the same - they only pay duty on amounts over $800 ... and the duty is small = to the sales tax they would have paid if they would have bought the product in Canada. https://www.crossbordershopping.ca/calculators/canadian-duty-calculator.

I put in the amount for a 100 dollar pair of shoes = 1.33 Canadian dollars... the duty calculated for residents of the the province of Alberta was 6.65

Regardless .. this has nothing to do with Trump complaining about people from Canada spending money on the US or Tariff's.

You mean "dumping" steel at the world price? The price of american steel is 50% HIGHER than in the rest of the world. Now that is what I call a "competitive edge".

Ah blissful ignorance. A state where everything that is not understood or known can be blamed on the "other" - be it a liberal, or a conservative, or a commie, or a different race/religion/ethnicity, hell even a different sports team fan.

We have a blended federal/provincial sales tax system.

You mean the unfair loophole we put a stop to a couple of years ago when it became an issue under NAFTA? That one?

The United States doesn't have a federal sales tax but does have excise taxes.

Democrats in Congress once passed a luxury tax like on boats, yachts, private planes, some high end sporting goods but was repealed when millions of American lost their jobs for making things for rich people or working as waiters, waitresses and bar tenders a yacht clubs and country clubs.

Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon don't even have a state sales tax

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming don't have a state income tax.

California taxes everything but they hide the taxes by calling them fees.

Alberta doesn't have a provincial sales tax, nor the territories. Other provinces vary between 6 and 10%. Federal sales tax is 5%.

lets cut through the ever growing pile of BS that comes out his mouth...smuggling is virtually non existent from the US to Canada...Canadians are allowed to bring $200 of goods per person, I just spent 4 days in San Diego with the mrs, we brought back $200 in clothing and paid no tariffs, taxes or anything else, we were entitled to $1600 for those 4 days...the man is a complete moron whose got his arm up to his elbow in his butt pulling out crap and his trumpettes eat it up as if it were bible quotes...utterly moronic....

I used British Columbia for an example because I like British Columbia but one of the best burgers I ever had in my life was in Toronto, Ontario.

I've been through both Canadian and U.S. Customs at the U.S./Canada border before NAFTA more than a few times.

Never had any problems with Canadian customs but U.S. Customs was a pain in the butt back before NAFTA.

Thats what we need to do. Impose a sales tax on american residents when buying other nations goods and tell evertone that its a sales tax not a tariff.

Sounds like Canada is high tax.

Does Canada have a federal income tax ? A province income tax ? A federal or Province gas tax ?

federal tax, provincial income tax...gas taxes, provincial sales tax varies by province, I pay none...as much as everyone may hate taxes you can't run a country without them...
As my local Mayor said "people tell me they want better services and infrastructure but then they say they want lower taxes too! " well that ain't gonna work is it....
