You're right, his job isn't what a foamy mouthed any person from any side decides. His job is clearly defined since the role first existed in the 1880s when Grover Cleveland created it. He speaks on the President's behalf, daily, to the press. Nothing more, nothing less. And he's supposed to talk to the press. He didn't deny today's allegation. And he has the power to deny on the President's behalf.

Trump's giving Russian media access to his Offal Orifice whilst barring Americans appeared as another blunder predicated upon gross incompetence, but a pattern is developing that merits scrupulous investigation.

What financial entanglements with Mother Russia might Trump's tax returns promised to the American public reveal?

Perhaps we might entreat the Russians to intercede and obtain them for us.
