Coming this fall, just before the election (what a coincidence), one of the more transparent attempts to buy votes you will ever see.

Did I say we should eliminate billionaires? That would be an asinine approach to the massive disparity between the top 1% and the rest of the population. The farce that billionaires are somehow "ultra productive" is nothing but Ayn Rand utopian vision for a meritocracy. It just ain't so. A billionaire CEO isn't necessarily more productive or worthy than the company's Chief scientist. GE recognized this decades ago.

Massive disparity in wealth always leads to social instability. The remedy is usually elections or the guillotine.

    Unresponsive.

Being the largest employer it reflects the economy (which Trump now says has "concerns") and AFFECTS the economy ...because those employees have less to spend

Assuming your income itself didn't increase substantially you must make some pretty good coin...because the average American got less than 10% of that...if like me they didn't get a hefty tax increase

Interesting because I made about $110K and the loss of deductions COST be $2500.Of course had I made double that I would have offset that loss with tax cuts ( aimed at that higher bracket)...so how much do you MAKE?

Correct. I’m simply pointing out the raging hypocrisy of all the tea party fiscal conservatives on this forum that RAILED throughout the entirety of Obama’s presidency about deficits and debt, and couldn’t care less about trump outspending Obama.

Government spending accounts for a large part of gdp.

irrelevant. Republicans add more to the debt than do democrats, as I showed you.

Why do you keep parroting this lie? Trump isn’t proposing spending cuts. His budget proposal INCREASES spending.

With our combined incomes, my wife and I make more than $110K, but not really a huge amount more, definitely not double. Let me put it this way ... If you are married, filing jointly, the highest part of our income is well within the same bracket as yours is (22%). If you are single, the highest part of your income is in a higher bracket than ours is (24%).

I lost the deductions too. I have gone from itemizing deductions to taking the new standard deduction for a married couple. Our kids are grown, so we have no dependents.

Everybody's situation is different, and the truth is, the last time I itemized we could only itemize about $27K, which included our Personal Exemptions of $8100. The biggest part of that $27K was our state income tax. But since the Standard Deduction is now $24K, we only lost about $3K in deductions, and the lower tax rates made up for that and then some.

Your situation is probably different than ours. Our home is paid for, so there's no mortgage interest. It's a modest home, so the property tax is only $2200. We give quite a bit to charity, but now that's not deductible. So if you are paying on a substantial mortgage, live in a bigger house with higher property taxes, etc, then your situation is different from mine. It could be that you had much more than $27K worth of deductions, and so the lower tax rates and Standard Deduction don't make up for the loss of the itemized deductions.

    Does that sound about right?

Obama was cutting into defense spending. President Trump has invested heavily in defense spending (not enough but its a start).

I would much rather the U.S. run huge deficits preparing for the next war than useless and pointless wealth transfers to the old and sick who will never be productive again anyway.

Defense spending needs cut in half.

We are not in danger of a war. We pay for occupation forces of the American empire. This is illegal and a violation of the US constitution. But, republicans don’t care about the constitution, or debt and deficits unless a democrat is president. It’s hilarious that you guys think you fool anyone.

That would not be me. I long ago figured out that, Washington, no matter who ran it was never going to balance the budget. The the only question is can we grow the economy fast enough to keep up with Washington's multigenerational profligacy. And of course the answer is not by regulating every known human activity and demanding terms of compliance paper work from everyone from General motors to Joe's Tuna Shack and taxing everything just short of enough to cause riots in the streets.

I always enjoy listening to the so called defense experts who arbitrarily say the defense budget should be cut in half when they do not have a clue what they would cut.
We could likely bring all our forces home and defend our borders and be perfectly safe, but the rest of the world would not be.
Having spent a major part of my military career overseas, I failed to see this occupation. We never controlled any of their population like an occupying force. We were there to defend. Personally, I believe most of these countries should be defending themselves. But the Trump haters get upset when he insists on our foreign partners pay for their own defense.

They were small or temporary they helped balance the budget and produce measly deficits as opposed to Democrat policies.

I know exactly what I would cut. Every troop currently outside the borders of the US would be recalled, all foreign bases closed.

Sucks for them. Looks like they need to increase their own defense spending. We can not do it.
I fully support trumps position on that.

No. U.S. defense spending should start at one trillion annually and increase by an average of at least 5% annually for the next decade.

Another major war is inevitable and you know it. It can't be avoided. If not now then within the next 10-20 years. It takes at least a decade for a country like the U.S. to prepare for a major war. And being prepared for a war not only serves to reduce our death toll but that of our allies and enemies as well.

Population growth and modest economic growth. Revenues always increase year over year barring a recession. We took in less revenue than we would have had trump not slashed rates.

Sounds good. You need to tell the democrats to quit worrying about the Kurds and cutting the UN and NATO budget.
