Let me explain something to you in an analogy. You are told over and over by a teacher that you are stupid and ugly. As a result the other kids saw you as stupid and ugly and you believed you were stupid and ugly. Then one day someone spoke to the teacher and said never do that again. Do you really believe that all those people stopped saying you were stupid and ugly? Now let’s look at segregation which wasn’tjuat when the country was founded it wasn’t that long ago . Black people were told They were inferior and couldn’t sit with white people on the bus, couldn’t eat near them and couldn’t even drink water out of the water fountain. That message was internalized by white people and black people as well and it just doesn’t go away because it becomes illlegal. The damage was done and it will take several generations to undo this internalization. Young people today who are unaware of segregation are much more tolerant.
