The 'troubles' did not start till 69. I have heard and from being alive this sounds much more likely, that the reason our Government did not send troops to Vietnam was because they believed that would result in civil war - that the British people would not stand for it. Having our tvs with reporters and film crews honestly reporting what was going on in Nam cost the US that war. Of course they learned and never let that happen again even shooting dead Independent Journalists and their teams to warn the others.

I thought the people were wonderful though the main attraction for me were historical sites like Sacsayhuamen and environs. I didn't like Lima that much but I generally don't like big cities that much

Actually this may not be a bad idea if Turkey actually follows through with international cooperation and does not continue it's ethnic cleansing of Kurds in the territories they control.
