Curriculums are taught at certain times of the year in order to get in all the necessary lessons before standardized testing near the end of the year. Schools shouldn't have to change the timing of lessons because people are being paranoid. It's the paranoia that needs taming, not the lessons being taught. If schools have to react by changing their curriculum every time some paranoid person gets spooked, the kids wouldn't be taught anything. Parents overreacted. They aren't preventing anything with their paranoia, except their kids getting educated. Students at that grade level all over the US are being taught virtually the same thing, but only this one school system shut their doors. People being spooked enough to threaten a school system and get the entire system shut down over one day's lesson, in one subject, at one grade level, is ridiculous. Pandering to the paranoia plays into the terrorists hand and lets them win. I am against letting terrorist win.

    I don't understand your question.

If they are Islamofascists, then yes.

John McCain is an idiot. He still believes in the existence of "moderate Syrian rebels".

    Yes.

Out of curiosity... where do you think the Germans got it? It is Sanskrit, meaning something to the effect of "all that is good" and was co-opted by the Nazi party. Regardless of this fact... it is inappropriate for really, really obvious reasons. You can pretend to be obtuse though... it seems to work well for you.

Is it really overreaction? Do parents really give the (*)(*)(*)(*) about calligraphy, or are they worrying about something else?

The world is on the edge, and it is very evident to these who once on a while comes out of the mother's basement. Just flew in from in to Moscow from Istanbul, what a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing relief! Gonna go have me some champagne with herring and maybe, some caviar for breakfast, and relax :cheerleader:

You do. I just told you. Again though, regardless of this fact, it is wildly inappropriate for a German educator to force a Jewish child to draw Swastikas of any kind.

We did promote "American value" in schools. It's just that we had a different view of who are Americans and who are not. In 1941 we were only 60 years or sho away from still rounding up "Indians" and making them speak "American" and take "American" names. Hell we were not all that far away from the concept of " the only good Indian is a dead Indian".. So why would we be surprised that we threw "Japs" into concentration camps.

The swastika is really a symbol that is from the Hindu culture and was adopted by Hitler and his gang.

The two are analogous. Again... this opaque thing works wonderfully for your position in this argument, but I fear lowers the overall credibility of all your arguments.

I can understand where you are coming from on the overreaction by the parents but I am not surprised they reacted that way. When you every day that the POTUS is a secret Muslim and he is secretly flying Muslims into FEMA camps and that they are allowing Muslims to train as terrorists and that the POTUS and all government agencies are incompetent and Muslim Syrian refugees are given brand new Cadillac SUV's, a 401 k fund, Obama Care Plus, gym membership, gift cards to Neman - Marcus, allowed to sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom, a Hawaiian vacation every six months and 40 virgin partridges in a pear tree what do you expect ?

    Freudian slip?

When you ask the girls to put on hijabs and force them to denounce their God... I get to judge you.

You may TEACH religion, and the basic tenants of all the major religions of the world, part of that Freshman World Geography course, however, you may not PREACH religion in American public schools. As for the assignment? I probably would have had the students write out the basic structure of the Islamic faith; or the Christian ones (Catholic and Protestant), or Judaism; Hindu; Animism, as an assignment, instead of having students, in today's volatile anti-Islamic atmosphere, tackle a specific Islamic Arabic statement of faith, citing Mohammad, which is central to the Islamic faith, as Jesus is to Christianity, or Abraham; Moses; David and Solomon are to Judaism, and the Buddha is to Buddhism. A better assignment would have students cite the similarities between the various established religions of the world. It is just a short walk from Moses Ten Commandments to Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and Golden Rule, to the Buddha's Eightfold Path for Enlightenment, and right living. All say about the same thing. As for Islam? Its founder isn't Mohammad, it is Isaac, brother of Abraham, founder of Judaism. This is normally a 9th grade High School mandatory course, I would have thought, unless the school has a major Islamic student population, that an assignment like this would have been thought out more intelligently, and discarded in the dangerous atmosphere of religious fervor about Islam fundamentalist terrorism in today's world. Have no problem teaching HS students to respect other people's religions and differences, however, when all we hear today is Islamic terrorism, I wouldn't have assigned something like that to 9th grader's to write about...............

I think it's a cool assignment for practising calligraphy. I find the whole situation with schools closing over it strange, as I wouldn't expect violence in retaliation over something like this.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the words One Nation - "Under God" - in the Pledge of Allegiance and the inscription "In God We Trust" on our money, are so generic, as to mean anything to anybody, and nothing to anybody as they see fit, and don't advocate a thing. Otherwise, the liberal's would have had it removed decades ago..............:oldman:

I wonder if the teacher was a Muslim, or a Christian (or some other religion) who does not really understand Arabic culture and did not make an effort to find another quotation in Arabic. There are many proverbs that could be used which are not religious. I think this is a weakness on the part of the teacher who may have little or no real knowledge and understanding of Arabic culture or language.

Yes, but why? Are they willing apparatchiks, or just simply Leftist loons that will defend anything the Cons are against? I ponder. :confusion:
