Yesterday MAY have changed that math.

Obviously, McConnell and Pelosi will have to agree on a deal to remove Trump, with McConnell giving assurances that he has the required GOP Votes in the Senate.

It would be a Fool's Errand for the House to pass Articles of Impeschment without the Certainty of Conviction and Removal.

I think you're dreaming if you think that the Defense budget vote is somehow an indication of how Senators might vote on impeachment. They're wildly different issues.

Well, one good thing to come out of this is that the NY Attorney's office is going to feel a lot easier about going after an ex-president with
state charges. Trump's support will have evaporated to the point where many Republicans are just going to want him to go away.
And while I doubt Trump will be removed before the end of his term, I think it's now more likely he will be served with subpoenas within weeks of
leaving office. Trump's legacy will be equal to Nixon's at this point.

I suppose it's in the universe of possibilities, but I haven't seen any evidence that there's anywhere near 2/3 of the Senate ready to support impeachment. The guys that are wishing / hoping / advocating for this are living in a fantasyland, completely devoid of reality.

Based on the vote yesterday over auditing the electoral votes (a Cruz motion), Cruz has only a 6% Senate support. The House Republicans that voted for the Cruz bill didn't get above 30% of the House. Since impeachment only requires a simple majority, no problem there and the Senate 2/3rds requirement (67%) is well above the 6% indicated by the veto override.

Except, unlike last year, for this sort of *expedited process" Nancy would need assurances BEFORE passing the Articles, that Mitch had the Votes in the Senate.

Yeah, it's going to be seen as band wagon jumping this AM, but I've been saying for a year he's clearly a cut (or 3) ahead of the average House Member, all R's and many D's....

I'm sure I'd disagree with most of what he'd support socially and economically, but he certainly has a spine...

Again, trying to extrapolate how the Senate might vote on impeachment of the President based on how they voted on Senator Cruz' amendment, or the Defense budget, is a fool's errand. Until you've got more than a dozen Republican Senators who have made some public statement indicating support for impeachment, you should understand you're nowhere near the level of support you'd need to pull it off.

There's virtually nothing "conservative" about him. He's a moderate. That's just reality. I'm not saying that moderates in general, nor Kinzinger in particular, are bad people, but there's no reason to mislead people about where he is on the political spectrum. He's not a "conservative".

Completely disagree. Trump will leave office in 13 days. He did not start the riots. Those that claim that his vague words were the caused are the same ones that say that when the BLM calls for cops to be killed can not be responsible for cops being killed. The President has spoken out against the violence during the protest. He called for an end to the violence. Now the same people that supported the violence during the BLM, ANTIFA and Defund police riots are calling for President Trump to be removed from office before his term is up. It will take longer then 13 days to use the 25th Amendment or impeachment to remove the President. So, why even try?

Nobody says he has that power. And his suggestion looks pretty smart (to smart people).

Depends on how far to the right you want to go to be classified as a conservative. The Family Research Council (classified as a conservative organization) gives him a 100% rating and the Almanac of American Politics describes him as "a conservative." [Page 640 of their 2020 edition.]

I just heard Jeh Johnson the former Secretary of Homeland security give the best advice for Trump. He said Donald should go back to Mara lago and stay there and let the VP in Washington to clean up the final details. No resignation in disgrace, just slip away with your head held high I would add, and keep your mouth shut.

Sadly, not taking definitive action against him for fear of what his supporters will do means the government DOES negotiate with terrorists.

Not sure anyone has polled them on the issue post Capitol storming. Graham might be "turnable" based on his remarks on the floor yesterday. Also Paul. Add Romney, Collins, Murkowski, and you're almost half way there.
