Well, it's the North Korean people that will suffer because of Kim digging his heals in. Trump can't pull the sanctions if Kim won't offer anything substantial in return.

Simple matters of "truth" and "untruth" do not determine is someone is a "liar" or not. "Lying" is about intent as much as anything.

But NK is no longer a nuclear threat, right? That's what Trump said. Should we not believe the President?

Trump: the fool who thought he could disarm a country he threatened to burn to ashes.

Our news in the UK predicted a no deal before the meeting. I'm led to believe the threat was launching capable nuclear weapons to any realistic distance. Those missile tests landing everywhere was just a Kim fanfare. Sanctions are hurting North Korea and Kim wants sanction relief with nothing in return.

    That is a legitimate complaint

The allies have to train together to maintain combat readiness

Which goes to show that NBC is not "anti-Trump," at least not in any unreasonable, non-objective way, same as all the other media he unfairly attacks.

Clinton certainly did give away the store to NK

But as I recall he used interference by jimmy carter as his excuse

Of course news in the UK wasn't expecting a deal, they aren't stupid. This was doomed to fail from the start. Kim gets to be seen on the international stage, thus legitimizing him, and he doesn't have to give a thing in return. This is precisely the reason no other President before Trump has done this. Trump got played, again, and got nothing in return.

Engaging in fantasy like this will get you nowhere. Try evaluating Democratic and Republican presidents based on facts, not ideology- & fake news-fueled fantasies.

So your statement that a President I would have voted for would have given away the store was BS. I gave you 16 years of Presidents I voted for (Obama, Clinton) that did not.

I dont think bush43 was any better on north korea than clinton or obama

Trump inherited a very weak hand from the three previous baby boomer presidents

I think threads like this are proof that when you try something hard, like making peace with a nation that’s been your sworn enemy for 65 years, try making the world a safer place, the only thing the piss ants can do, is snipe from the cheap seats.

Just part of the process. Even if the prediction was doomed, you still have the meetings. Sanctions bite again, Kim has time to have a bit more thinking and umpteen months down the line, a third meeting. Will it be doomed again? If so, sanctions will continue to bite.

I don't find it strange you're fighting your president and sticking up for Kim who has had people killed.

I've studied North Korea quite extensively from one of the foremost experts in the region. I understand a lot of the complexities of the region and I am also well versed in negotiations. I understand and recognize that North Korea is an extremely thorny issue and that is one of the biggest reasons why Obama warned Trump that North Korea was one of the, if not the single, biggest problems in the world.

But I come back to the conclusion that Trump's efforts are almost exclusively a failure. The "last missile lobbed over Japan" was done in direct response to Trump's "fire and fury" rhetoric. If you want to allege that Trump playing nice has decreased those instances, that's fine. But you have to acknowledge that Trump has also made us and our allies less prepared through the suspension of joint military exercises.

And the personal meetings that he has agreed to gave KJU plenty in exchange for nothing. KJU now has reams of video and audio propaganda of the leader of the most powerful country in the world saluting the North Korean leader and his generals, of praising KJU and his people, and he has increased legitimacy with the rest of the region.

In exchange, Trump got nothing. You want to give him credit for trying? Fine. I do not because I believe his tactic was doomed to fail from the beginning.

I am happy that both sides are on more friendly terms and the rhetoric has been toned way down. Trump and Pompeo are at least trying to create a dialog instead of making threatening moves and statements. I applaud them for their efforts.

Kim is stalling, yes, see my earlier point about Eastern culture doing deals like this in slow motion to ensure the reputation of both parties. In Western culture, we would call that stalling.
