Ask any big government liberal or moderate and they can tell you that wealth comes from money trees growing along the Potomac

China has protective tariffs and seeks to penetrate and take over our markets while protecting its own

That is the essence of mercantilism

The tariffs you say are bad economics, is what made america the power that won ww2. Globalism, and never seeing consumer good industry rise here is what it would have yielded. If only cheap slave labor mattered. So get outta town. We would have never become an empire using slave labor overseas, and we would not have had the industry sufficient enough to win ww2. Nor the engineers needed. And we would have never seen the largest middle class in history to arise here in america. I think you have been educated into idiocy. I compliment your educators.

Is this why for years our major export to china was scrap? No wonder we have run trade deficits with them from day one.

What made us win WWII is the facts that a. we had two oceans protecting us and so were not bombed out of existence b. we're the 4th largest nation in the world and so had great stores of resouces and c. we had huge amounts of excess capacity just waiting to be used because we had just suffered through a ten year long depression.

That Great Depression is what the tariffs gave us.

I can't compliment whoever educated you. Maybe he should have told you to read books with many viewpoints, not just the conservative ones.

But what did add up were the principles used and put into place by our Founders. And that is the system that made america an empire. Not slave labor globalism. It is a proven model. So for from globalism it has proven only that it creates income disparity, weakens the nation losing its industry to slave labor, for greater profits, as it destroys our middle class and the american dream except for a few. And as it created the greatest income disparity since the gilded age.

So what globalism is proving is its ability to destroy the middle and create poverty, while the few at the top become richer than ever. And the Left, who used to stand up for average americans could not care less. But then neither does the establishment GOP. For they both gave it to you.

Sure they are. China cannot afford to not remove trade barriers to US goods to avoid trade restrictions on their exports to the US. China has a billion people living on less than $2K per year. They cannot afford to reduce economic growth.

The HUGE trade deficit is their problem not ours. Trump knows that. His solution is to increase our exports to China to reduce the deficit.

Maybe, but there is no indication of that as yet, so you are just speculating, while I am reporting facts.

Perhaps you need to restudy your arithmetic. I don't understand what you mean by "globalism". The reason tariffs don't work seems simple to me and doesn't seem to involve any complicated ideologies. They are an attempt to tax anyone who buys an imported product so that the price of that product will be above the domestic product and we will buy that product instead. They have the effect of raising prices overall to make us "protect" American companies who can't compete with foreigners and causing other nations to raise tariffs on our products in return. They thus hurt our exports while limiting our import market. The way to compete has always been to make better products for less but Trumpistas seem to think we can simply compel both our own people and foreigners to pay higher prices for lower quality through taxes on ourselves, This makes no sense to me.

Your "facts" do not exist. China is not doubling down they are participating in negotiations to open their markets to US goods by removing their trade restrictions on importing US goods. No tariffs have been implemented on anything.

Trump is threatening tariffs to force China and other countries to remove trade barriers on US exports to those countries and therefore reduce trade deficits not by reducing US imports but by increasing US exports. It's amazing that the left cannot comprehend this simple negotiation tactic. Trump however is acting to reduce prices on US goods by removing arbitrary regulations and reducing the corporate and small business income taxes. This price reduction in conjunction with removing trade barriers will increase US exports thus growing the economy and raising the rate of increase in the standard of living. Does this make sense to you ??

China has tariffs that exclude American imports

If an American company wants to sell its oroducts in china it cant do so unless the product is made in china

They will buy our raw materials but nothing else

And thats how they maintain the trade deficit with us

So what? Those tariffs will eventually hurt China and Chinese people. Why should we hurt Americans because the Chinese want to hurt themselves?
