It's interesting that now sensible liberals have the dilemma of both satisfying their own base -- critical for getting the nomination -- and then not looking too kooky to get elected. It's the same problem Republicans have had for years, with respect to their Fundamentalist Christian supporters: how to pretend to reject evolution while getting the nomination, and then not look too pig-ignorant to the mass of voters.

Glad it's them that have the problem, with this difference: it actually makes no difference if a President 'believes' in evolution or not -- nothing will change as a result (and most people couldn't explain what the theory of evolution is anyway). But if a Leftist Democrat gets elected, along with Congressmen and Senators of the same persuasion, it will have very bad consequences for the US.

Having the information and gathering all of the information for specific evaluations are two different things. Yes, the Government does have all of this information, but it is compartmentalized. An EC to request all of this information to be gathered an looked at by the same people seem like a logical first step.
