Whether constitutional or not depends on which side of the bed roberts wakes up on the day of the Supreme Court decision

The same mindset is controlling the House and are doing the best to keep this distracting balloon in the air.

The law is constitutional is what the right does not want to get, but the courts will shove it down their throats. The Constitution is quite clear that the states control the federal elections in their jurisdictions.

Caselaw is caselaw and courts strike laws passed by Congress especially if they violate the Constitution as in the 4th Amendment.

I think this one is so crystal clear, even Roberts could figure it out.

I get it. Politics and appeals to emotion to their base to keep their eyes off other issues in Illinois.

As it increases it's collapse, and works to join California's pile of smoldering ruins, Illinois does need a bogey man to hold the attention of those who don't know any better.

But the courts also have ruled over and over that States can't usurp Federal Law.

Look up the Supremacy Clause, Article VI, clause 2, of this important thing called the Constitution of the United States of America.

Yes, and there are thousands of cases, like those you cited to, which have absolutely nothing to do with Congresses' right to be furnished with tax returns.

Show me where those cases have anything whatsoever to do with that statute. You can't, because they don't.

This case does not violate the 4th Amendment. Any case against this law violates the Constitutional prerogative of the states to control and regulate elections. The states, thus, are not usurping federal laws.

Politics and emotions cannot set aside the politics of the terrified Right.

They don't have a RIGHT to anyone's tax return. Their passing a law saying the can request them from the IRS and the IRS shall provide them does not grant them RIGHT. The question is whether Congress can just willy-nilly as a matter of curiosity invade a citizens privacy rights. The courts have said that would be an abuse of power and there must be a legislative purpose to do so.

    Let's go to court.

Can the Republicans in a state pass a law that says Democrats cannot run campaign ads? I mean according to you the state legislature can do anything under the prerogative. Can they say only men can run for office? No that would violate the Constitution.

    Let's go to court.

And STILL no one can state clearly and concisely what they are even looking for in the tax returns.

The statute is plain and clear. It states that Treasury "shall furnish" the returns requested. Not if they "feel like it". Not for "a super good reason". Not even for a "legislative purpose".

You understand what "shall furnish" means, right?

Besides, Congress can't pass bills on its own, as you seem to suggest. If you don't know, you should watch Schoolhouse Rock's "I'm Just a Bill":

Changed his mind? No, he always claimed he was willing to release the returns but couldn't because of an imaginary IRS audit, which of course would not prevent him from releasing them anyway. He has been lying from day one to keep them secret and deflect people from demanding them. His bluff is being called now.

Called by whom, the people who spent the past two to three years trying to frame and hang him for the crime of treason, a crime which never even happened? Now those same devious people want to see his tax returns? They used up all their clout and credibility on the Russia Hoax. He owes them nothing but a stiff arm, along with an investigation of their own motivations and actions over the past two or three years.

On some points. He is free to change his mind about his ridiculous wall. I guess he mostly has already, anyway. He's tearing down old fencing, building new fencing in its place and declaring it NEW WALL :D

You don't know that. If you call me and ask me to come over. And I say I can't because I'm in the middle of cooking. It doesn't mean I'm lying just because I can stop what I'm doing and go to your house if I really wanted to. It just means that I'm busy and don't want to take time for you. Deal with it. Besides, you just tried to have me imprisoned and/or executed for something you made up. You think I want to play with you after that. Take a hike, gonzo.

He didn't win Illinois, and doesn't need his name on an Illinois ballot to win again, but, lets go to court.

How many electoral votes did Trump win in Illinois in 2016? None. So it won't be a big freaking deal if he doesn't get any votes from Illinois in 2020. Eat crow.

And liberals believe in using the power of the government to defeat their opponents and win elections. Eat that schnitzel sandwich.
