Why did Al Qaeda foolishly attack us on 9-11?

I know youve convinced yourself that living in an arab country makes you the expert on Al Qaeda, along with all your other fields of expertise, but it doesnt.

yeah, Al Qaeda mis-judged the USA -- especially under Bush... Perhaps, if the attacked happened under Clinton, it might have worked out better for Al Qaeda. Perhaps a few cruise missiles here or there a drone attack once in a while... but this was under a God fearing Texan who wasn't afraid to administer an assekicking.

Ok first of all, the majority of operatives that made up AQI(Al Qaeda in Iraq)
    were Iraqis.

And second of all, you are only giving pure speculation that Saddam would have given cover, and a base of operations to Al Qaeda. It's highly doubtful that Saddam would have willing let Al Qaeda in his nation, because they would be just as much a threat to his regime, as they would be to anyone else.

    Your assertion is dead wrong.

Yes they recruited there although you post nothing to support your assertion.

We know he would have and would have given them other support to attack western nations.

You do know that UBL himself declared Iraq the frontline in the war against us?

    They are spot on.

    You are correct, eleison.

Bill Clinton's response to the events of 9-11 would have been completely different.

First, there would have been intense handwringing followed by months of self introspection! The Democrats under the leadership of Barack Obama would have asked, "What did we do to bring this terrible destruction upon ourselves?"

Wait so those "America hating leftists" were right when they said we were attacked due to our foreign policy? My god do you really hate America that much that you'd agree with people who are actually paying attention to what's happening?! Welcome to the bright side (no not the leftist side, the "I'm actually bothering to look at facts side").

I'd go with it's a culture thing myself. Nothing in their religion tells anyone to blow themselves up to kill as many innocent people as possible. That's the idiot imams and terrorists telling people to do that. They are using religion for their goal yes, but saying the muslim religion endorses terrorism would be like saying christianity endorses child sex.

In any case I'm certainly not a fan or these idiots running around blowing people up. Hopefully we can find some way to solve the problem but I doubt we will for a very, very long time. Terrorists won't stop until we stop playing games in the mid east and we won't stop until we want to.

Yes, our foreign policy to not stay on our side of the oceans. I dont think anyone disagrees that it is our foreign policy.

We just disagree with your logic that concludes we should do as they wish to avoid attacks. And if the dog down the street tries to bite me when I walk past their property, true, I was attacked because I walked past their property. But that dog rushes to the street, barks like crazy and lunges at anybody who walks past their property. There is something more motivating the dog than MY presence.

Just like Al Qaeda. They attack in Saudi, Yemen, Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan India, the far east. James touched on their underlying goal.

And why do they want an Islamic Caliphate? Because they "hate our freedom". And they wont have any of it in Muslim societies if they had their way.

From Maqdisi and Qutb, two of the most often cited Islamic scholars among the likes of Al Qaeda.

????? I was referring to their tendency to "lash out by killing innocent civilians" and said nothing about the killing of themselves. I dont really have a problem with that part of their desires. But its irrelevance is likely why thats where you want to go. And their religon tells them

[2.191] And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.

[2.193] And fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah...

2.216] Fighting is enjoined on you, and h is an object of dislike to you; and it may be that you dislike a thing while it is good for you, and it may be that you love a thing while it is evil for you, and Allah knows, while you do not know.

[2.244] And fight in the way of Allah,...

[2.246] ...May it not be that you would not fight if fighting is ordained for you? They said: And what reason have we that we should not fight in the way of Allah, and we have indeed been compelled to abandon our homes and our children. But when fighting was ordained for them, they turned back, except a few of them, and Allah knows the unjust.

    [3.169] And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive (and) are provided sustenance from their Lord;

[4.74] Therefore let those fight in the way of Allah, who sell this world's life for the hereafter; and whoever fights in the way of Allah, then be he slain or be he victorious, We shall grant him a mighty reward.

[4.76] Those who believe fight in the way of Allah, and those who disbelieve fight in the way of the Shaitan. Fight therefore against the friends of the Shaitan; surely the strategy of the Shaitan is weak.

[9.5] So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

[9.29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

    [9.111] Surely Allah has bought of the believers their persons and their property for this, that they shall have the garden; they fight in Allah's way, so they slay and are slain;

[9.123] O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).

[47.4] So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them,

"Fight", "kill", "slay", and "smite the necks" of the unbelievers until religion is only for allah. Its pretty explicit.

    Its pretty explicit.

Especially when your fear of offending muslims wont even allow you to see what is truely motivating them. They will stop when they realize their tactics wont help them to achieve their goals of an Islamic Caliphate and see that their attacks are actually detrimental to that goal.

And back to the killing themselves part

    [3.169] And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive (and) are provided sustenance from their Lord;

[4.74] Therefore let those fight in the way of Allah, who sell this world's life for the hereafter; and whoever fights in the way of Allah, then be he slain or be he victorious, We shall grant him a mighty reward.

Its a one way, first class ticket to paradise. Makes their decision to do so a lot easier for them.

    You are very correct, Rapunzel.

Especially when you say, "They hate anyone who is not Muslim and they even hate other Muslims who are not in their sect."

The Osama sycophants in this group cannot bring themselves to actually believe what their "Messiah" said in his own words!

You are very mistaken, My Fing ID.

Especially when you say, "Nothing in their religion tells anyone to blow themselves up to kill as many innocent people as possible."

You should familiarize yourself with the teachings of the "Holy Quran" before you make these foolish statements.

Well, on the 'cui bono' idea, it may well have been organised by Mossad, but assuming that it was hatched by Muslims, the plan was, obviously, to provoke the US into such insanely provocative behaviour that it would be hated by everyone in the Islamic world, rather than just most people. In this I'd say it has been pretty successful, and the hate-filled rantings so many Americans indulge themselves in are carrying on the good work.

Bin was pretty explicit in his 1998 fatwa

We had 15,000 troops in "all the lands of Islam" when he wrote that. 9/11 brought him 100s of 1000s of MORE US troops to all the lands of Islam. It wasnt until AFTER we had 100s of 1000s of troops in the region that we started hearing from the fans of Al Qaeda, this theory that he wanted us to invade.

I must respectfully disagree with you, Iolo.

Especially when you say, "In this I'd say it has been pretty successful, and the hate-filled rantings so many Americans indulge themselves in are carrying on the good work."

The Muslims in the United States have been treated very well since the events of 9-11. No mosques have been desecrated and no Muslims have been arrested and detained without due process. The attacks on individual Muslims for the events of 9-11 have been all but non-existent. We are working closely with the Muslims community to indentify the would-be terrorists and firebrands who live and work in their communities.

These actions are much different from the way the Muslims in Iran treated our three young college students who accidently wandered across the border and into their country. They were held in prison in Iran for three years without a trial and without legal counsel. They were not released until we paid an extravagant ransom to the Iranian government for their freedom.

Possibly. All invasions of the Muslim countries by Christians end badly, so provoking them was a pretty good bet, whether you heard of it or not.

Sorry, but that's got nothing to do with it. The idea was to provoke hatred on both sides, and it's worked. Destroying all political freedom in the Muslim states way back when (getting rid of Mossadeq to give all power to the Shah, for instance) meant that politics was bound to enter the mosque, giving influence to the likes of Bin Laden. Actions have results, that's all.

Again, you are very mistaken, Iolo.

The Muslims foolishly sided with the Germans during the first World War. This led to the destruction and end of the once powerful Muslim Caliphate and resulted in the British creating new protectorates and many new countries in the Middle East. The countries of Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia did not exist in the region before the end of First Word War.

Actually polling in muslim countries shows that the support for Alqaeda peaked after 9/11, and has stedily declined in most all muslim countries since. Even among islamic fundamentalist who agree with his goals of restoring the Islamic caliphate, can see that Al Qaeda has been detrimental to that goal.

The Arabs sided with us, so by 'the Muslims' you mean the Turks - who beat the hell out of the invasion forces in Gallipoli and at the war's end. The phoney 'mandates' didn't last and were seen off by the end of the 2nd War.

Again, you are very mistaken, Iolo.

If you believe "it" has worked, please cite specific instances in which "it" has worked.

    Guess what!

You can't because there are none!

As an Osama sycophant you want to believe it has worked, but you cannot cite cases where it has actually worked.

Your hero "Osama" was upset with the West because we broke up the Islamic Caliphate at the end of WW1 after the Muslims sided with the Germans during the war. He has said so many times in his own words!

Actually, Mossadeq orchestrated the dissolution of the parliament and giving himself all kinds of emergency powers, and the shah who reinstated it.

Don't be ill-mannered: I have no heroes, thank you very much. Iraq is lost to the west as soon as the puppet regime there is overthrown, Egypt is regaining freedom, Palestine is fighting back, Turkey is standing up to your Colony, Afghanistan is developing into another Vietnam, you are hated in Pakistan and Somalia. The colonisation of Libya won't last long, either. So, as I say, 'it' is working extremely well.
